En allant au concert de Sol Invictus à Nuremberg il y a quelques mois, Ian et moi sommes passés par Munich. Je ne voulais évidemment pas manquer l'occasion de me rendre au cimetière de Perlach pour voir le "White Rose Memorial" ainsi que le lieu où reposent Hans et Sophie Scholl et Christophe Probst. Notre recherche s’est avérée plus difficile que prévue, aucun Allemand parmi ceux que nous avons rencontrés sur place ne connaissant ce mouvement et encore moins le mémorial. Nous avons tout de même fini par trouver, c’était très particulier de se retrouver à cet endroit-là, plus de cinquante ans après... et même si le "mémorial" en question n’est finalement qu’un bout de papier épinglé à l’entrée du cimetière……

Ian and I went to Nuremberg a few months ago to see Sol Invictus live. On our way, we took the opportunity to stop in Münich to visit the Perlach Graveyard in order to see the "White Rose Memorial", as well as the place where Hans & Sophie Scholl and Christophe Probst have been buried. It was more difficult than expected to find the memorial, as no German amongst those we met had ever heard about that group and the memorial of course. We finally managed to find it and it was rather strange to stand on that particular place, more than fifty years later.... and even if the "memorial" is in fact just a sheet of paper pinned up at the entrance of the graveyard.......

Der Friedhof am Perlacher Forst war in den
Jahren 1942 bis 1945 der erste Bestattungsort für mehr als tausend
Opfer der nationalsozialistischen Gewaltherrschaft die im benachbarten
Gefängnis Stadelheim hingerichtet wurden. Die Mehrzahl dieser Opfer
wurde nach der Befreiung in Ihre Heimat Ueberführt.

Le cimetière de la forêt de Perlach
fut, de 1942 à 1945, le premier lieu d'inhumation pour plus de mille
victimes de la tyrannie national-socialiste qui furent exécutées
dans la prison voisine de Stadelheim. La majorité de ces victimes
fut transféré dans leur lieu de naissance respectif après
la libération.

Dr. Wittenstein is one of the only two survivors
of the inner circle of the "Weisse Rose", a resistance group of anti-Nazi
German students and their supporters that openly opposed Hitler. Recently
he delivered a
fascinating lecture to a Jewish organization in Los Angeles. An excellent
first-person account. The lecture is divided in four chapters.
